Why quotes vary so much

  • Frequency. Quarterly service costs more per visit than monthly because each visit covers more ground and more pest pressure has built up.
  • Initial service. Most recurring plans start with a heavier first visit (interior + exterior clean-out), billed separately or as a higher first charge.
  • Home and lot size. Bigger homes and heavily landscaped lots take longer, and time on site is the biggest cost driver.
  • Pest type. Rodent exclusion, bed bugs and termites are priced as projects, not routine visits.
  • Route density. A company with many customers on your street can price lower than one driving across town to reach you.
  • Local wages. BLS May 2025 mean wages for pest control workers range from $19.90/hr in Texas to $25.72/hr in New York.

For operators: how to set your own price

Consumer ranges tell you what the market tolerates, not what you should charge. Build up from cost:

  1. Labor - on-site plus drive minutes at a burdened wage (BLS May 2025 US mean: $22.31/hr before taxes and comp).
  2. Truck - miles per stop x cost per mile (IRS 2026 rate: 76 cents from July 1).
  3. Materials and overhead - product per visit plus a per-stop share of insurance, software, office and marketing.
  4. Margin - divide cost by (1 - target margin).

Frequently asked questions

How much does pest control cost per month?

For monthly service, HomeAdvisor reports $40-$70 per visit. A quarterly plan at $100-$300 per visit works out to about $33-$100 per month when spread over the year (our arithmetic).

How much is quarterly pest control?

$100-$300 per visit per HomeAdvisor’s June 2026 guide, or roughly $400-$1,200 a year for four visits, before any initial service fee.

Why is the first pest control visit more expensive?

The initial service usually treats interior and exterior, removes existing webs and nests, and knocks down established populations, so it takes longer and uses more product than maintenance visits.

Is a one-time pest control visit cheaper?

Per visit, no - HomeAdvisor puts one-time visits at $300-$550 versus $100-$300 for quarterly visits. It is cheaper only if you truly need a single treatment.
